Uli Jon Roth and Phil Mogg of UFO onstage at the first LEGENDS OF ROCK show at Castle Donington, England - 23. June 2001.
The idea for “Legends Of Rock” arose from a simple phone call ... The festival promoters for the Derbyshire Rock&Blues Festival rang U.J.R, because they needed a ‘last minute’ new headliner for their show in 2001. They turned to Uli because his agent had praised his ability ‘to pull rabbits out of the hat at short notice’ and he did. Uli picked up the phone and invited some of his old friends to join him onstage in order to make this an extra-special evening. Although not all of the invited guests who had promised to come did show up, the audience of some 17000 was not disappointed as the show was a great success for all involved and a bit of rock history was written onstage that night. The entire thing was filmed and resulted in a DVD which is simply great to watch and to listen to. (More detailed information to follow under “Filmography”)

Michael Schenker - one of the all-time great guitar players.Michael and
Uli were trading guitar leads relentlessly during the UFO classic‘ Rock Bottom’, which was one of the definite highlights of the concert. |

Uli Jon Roth and Jack Bruce bringing the Spirit of Cream alive. Performing freely, without prior rehearsal their set included Cream classics ‘White Room’, ‘Sunshine of Your Love’ and ‘Spoonful’ . With the backing of Clive Bunker on drums the two masters made sure that plenty of sparks were flying between them that night, culminating in an extended jam session under a fireworks display above, which had the audience mesmerized.
