Uli Jon Roth, Clive Bunker and Jack Bruce
The ‘Legends’ theme was picked up again one and a half years later in the form of a full scale UK tour in November 2002, albeit with a slightly different line-up on stage. UFO were not part of that tour as Michael Schenker had left the band and was suffering from a dislocated shoulder on top of that. Instead, Uli invited the Canadian born guitar legend Frank Marino to take part. This was to be Frank’s first return to the UK since the early Eighties and each night Frank played an amazing set. The two guitarreros also became very good friends during that tour and shared the stage every night for an intense rendition of ‘All Along The Watchtower’. Uli was hosting the show each evening and also played a set of his own, which culminated in a rendition of ‘Metamorphosis’. His set in general was designed to balance the overall picture of the evening by emphasizing much less traditional or conventional aspects of the rock genre. After all, this original trait is what had made ‘Legends’ become ‘Legends’ in the first place. This was a very important point to make under the banner of this concept. Uli went on to show that rock still can provide a genuine cutting edge and that it is still possible to pioneer new territory in that field. A further highlight of the Legends 2002 tour was “The Spirit Of Cream”, which featured Jack Bruce, U.J.R. and Clive Bunker and was devoted to interpretations of a selection of Cream classics. Glenn Hughes performed tracks from his Deep Purple era with J.J. Marsh on guitar and the grand finale saw all performers onstage. The encores started off with an amazing version of ‘Voodoo Chile’ performed by Frank. Other songs chosen for this were Paul Mc Cartney’s ‘Eleanor Rigby’, sung by Jack Bruce, followed by Jack’s all-time classic ‘I Feel Free’, featuring Jack and Glenn on vocals, and finally a great vocal performance of Glenn’s on ‘A Whiter Shade Of Pale’ with U.J.R. playing the lead.

Frank Marino with his totally unique approach to guitar playing. Holding the audience spellbound with his deeply felt journeys through a “Strange Universe” and his plethora of great guitar sounds. Frank’s set included both older “Mahogany Rush” material, as well as new songs.
